Who is the team at Te Mātāwai?
The Kāinga Ora regional office is based in the building. As well as this team, there is a facilities manager, a community development team, and the 24/7 Hapori Kaitiaki community guardians. Support services are run by Kāhui Tū Kaha, also on site 24/7.
Our name - a gift from Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei
The name Te Mātāwai was gifted by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. It refers to Waihorotiu, a waterway that ran through the area towards the Waitamatā harbour.

The name Te Mātāwai means:
A source of water emerging from the whenua in the upper reaches of a catchment. Ground water in this form is at its most pure and therefore most potent in the mauri (life force and energy) and oranga (wellbeing) of that wai.
